From December 16th to 18th, the 2023/4th Frontier Seminar on Pollution Control Chemistry, supported by the Chemical Science Department of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and jointly organized by the School of Chemistry of Central China Normal University, the Engineering Center for Light Energy Utilization and Pollution Reduction of the Ministry of Education, and the School of Environmental Science and Engineering of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, was held in Wuhan. Guo Yanbing's research group, as the main responsible party, hosted this conference. Jiang Guibin, an academician of the CAS Member, Zhao Jincai, an academician of the CAS Member, Zhu Lizhong, an academician of the CAE Member, Ma Jun, an academician of the CAE Member, Liu Maili, an academician of the CAS Member, Yu Hanqing, an academician of the CAE Member, Zhuang Qiankun, director of the environmental chemistry discipline of the Chemical Science Department of the National Natural Science Foundation, Ren Youzhou, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and vice president of Central China Normal University, Cao Xinde, secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Environmental Science and Engineering of Shanghai Jiaotong University, Wang Hai, director of the Science and Technology Department of Central China Normal University, Qiu Baoguo, secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Chemistry, and Yang Guangfu. Zhao Jincai, an academician of the CAS Member, served as the chairman of the conference, and Guo Yanbing, the leader of the research group, and Zhang Lizhi, a professor of the School of Environmental Science and Engineering of Shanghai Jiaotong University, served as the chairman of the conference. The opening ceremony was presided over by Xiao Wenjing, the dean of the School of Chemistry.

Zhao Jincai, on behalf of the organizing committee, warmly welcomes the attendance of experts and scholars. He briefly reviews the previous cutting-edge seminars on pollution control chemistry and points out that pollution control chemistry has achieved remarkable results from basic research to industrial application. It has made positive contributions to the cultivation of high-end talents and the completion of major national tasks. He hopes that experts and scholars can deeply explore and exchange ideas, support and promote each other, and jointly contribute wisdom to the development of environmental science in China through this conference.

In his speech, Ren Youzhou introduced the historical evolution and development of our university and the School of Chemistry, fully affirming the achievements of the School of Chemistry in research in environmental chemistry and other fields. He expressed that in the future, research will be closely focused on pollution control chemistry and related technological innovation, contributing to the energy conservation and emission reduction of traditional industries and the development of green economy. He also hoped that this conference would serve as an opportunity to promote the sharing of cutting-edge research results in pollution control chemistry, strengthen close cooperation, and create a green, low-carbon and beautiful future together.

This conference invited more than 130 outstanding young fund project and outstanding young fund project winners, major and key project leaders, and some invited experts from the Environmental Chemistry discipline of the Ministry of Chemical Science to participate. They conducted in-depth exchanges on hot and difficult issues related to "water pollution control chemistry", "air pollution control chemistry", and "soil/solid waste/new pollutants/radiation pollution control chemistry". There were a total of 32 special reports and 4 free seminars to jointly explore the key scientific issues and possible major breakthroughs in basic research of pollution control chemistry. Facing the major needs of the country, they focused on the complex system of actual environmental engineering and put forward suggestions for discipline development and talent cultivation.

With the efforts of the research group and all teachers and students of the School of Chemistry, this cutting-edge seminar has come to a successful conclusion.
